Pastor Frank j. Knolton Sr

On a crisp February 1st in 1971, the city of Detroit welcomed Reverend Frank Jerai Knolton, Sr. into a bustling household, where he became the sixth of seven siblings. Raised by Herman and Carolyn Jacobs, young Frank’s life was steeped in love and faith, setting the stage for a remarkable spiritual journey.

At the tender age of 13, Frank experienced a profound spiritual awakening. In the sanctuary of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, under the guidance of Reverend Jackson Lee, Sr., he surrendered his life to Christ and was baptized. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to his faith.

Frank's personal life blossomed in tandem with his spiritual growth. He married Ladawn Knolton, and together they raised seven wonderful children: Gwendolyn, Arielle, Keovon, Dennis, Dominic, Frank Jr., and Naomi. His devotion to his family mirrored his professional dedication. For over 20 years, Frank has served as a Community Vocational Liaison at The Therapeutic Rehabilitation Center, where he tirelessly supports children and adults in securing vocational opportunities, blending compassion with practical guidance.

In 1996, Frank’s spiritual path led him to First Union Missionary Baptist Church. There, he quickly became a pillar of the community, serving on the Board of Deacons and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. His passion for youth ministry and his love for music converged as he mentored young people and founded a community gospel choir. This choir united voices from across the city, harmonizing their praise into a powerful testament of unity and devotion.

Despite his achievements in music and community service, Frank felt a deeper call resonating within his heart. In February 2003, he embraced his divine calling to ministry with humility, continuing to serve God's people at First Union Missionary Baptist Church. His ordination as a minister at Leland Missionary Baptist Church under the mentorship of Rev. Cecil A. Poe, Ph.D., marked the next chapter in his spiritual odyssey.

March 2006 heralded a new era for Frank as he became the pastor of First Union Missionary Baptist Church. His leadership sparked a revival of growth and community engagement. Known for his dynamic preaching, insightful teaching, and leading by example, Pastor Knolton’s influence extended beyond the pulpit. As an accomplished drummer and passionate Psalmist, he wove music into the fabric of his ministry, using it to elevate worship and inspire praise.

On May 21, 2017, Reverend Frank Jerai Knolton, Sr. was called to be the 6th Pastor of Leland Missionary Baptist Church. His installation was a celebration of a journey defined by faith, service, and relentless devotion. With humility and fervor, he continues to seek God’s wisdom, dedicated to preaching salvation and embodying the essence of a servant-leader.

Reverend Knolton's life is a symphony of faith, service, and inspiration, harmonizing his roles as pastor, mentor, musician, and family man into a powerful testament to the enduring impact of a life devoted to God and community.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
